Free Garden Workshop on Fall Gardening

The Master Gardeners of Rutherford County are offering a free workshop on planning your fall garden at the Rutherford County Farmers’ Market on Friday, August 3rd, at 9:30 am.  This free and informal workshop, entitled Planning Your Fall Garden-What to Plant Now for a Bountiful Fall Harvest, is open to the public, and reservations are not required.

With the average date of the first freeze in Murfreesboro being October 13th, there is plenty of time to get those cool season vegetables started.  And some cool season vegetables not only survive, but also improve in flavor after a little touch of frost.  Examples of vegetables that can be planted now for a fall harvest include broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, kale, lettuce, radish, spinach, and turnip greens. With proper planning and care, you may be able to harvest some cool season vegetables all the way through Thanksgiving or later.

This workshop is offered by the Master Gardeners of Rutherford County as part of a monthly First Fridays at the Market series at 9:30 am the first Friday of each month, June through October.  Master Gardeners also host an information table at the Rutherford County Farmers Market each Tuesday and Friday from 7:00 am till noon.  The public is welcome to stop by with their gardening questions or to find out more about the Master Gardeners of Rutherford County and the many gardening classes and activities offered throughout the year.

For more information, visit http://www.mastergardeners-rc.org/index.html or call Reggie Reeves at 615-210-3050, or Janie Becker at 615-898-7710.

The Rutherford County Farmers’ Market is located at the Lane Agri-Park Community Center at 315 John R. Rice Blvd. in Murfreesboro.

The Rutherford County Master Gardener Program is offered through Rutherford County Extension.  Programs are offered to all eligible persons regardless of race, color, national origin, age, sex, or disability, and both UT Extension and TSU Cooperative Extension Program are Equal Opportunity Employers.
