Thank you all for making the 5th annual Lawn and Garden Extravaganza a HUGE success!
The Master Gardeners of Rutherford County wish to thank the vendors, speakers, FFA and patrons for making the Extravaganza the best yet! Our attendees found many bargains on beautiful plants, ornamentals, trees, and other garden supplies.

There were even items of special interest for the “younger gardeners”!

Our lecture series covered a broad range of topics, from home lawn care and maintenance, to understanding the plight of the declining honeybee populations that are so important to pollination.

Mitchell Mote of the Rutherford County Extension Service gave an entertaining and educational talk on Turf & Lawn Management, covering the full spectrum of lawn care.
Fred Hembree, Certified Beekeeper, provided a lively presentation on the importance of bees as pollinators in our landscape and gardens, and impressed upon us what a critical issue of our dwindling bee colonies are upon everyone.

Robert Wilson, Horticulturist, gave us a look at an incredible array of different and interesting evergreens, and suggestions on how to use them most effectively in our landscapes.

Beth Jacobs from Mary’s Greenhouses provided us with an exciting assortment of new perennials and annuals that have us “itching to dig some holes” and get started planting some of the beautiful new varieties!
We had several of our own Master Gardeners providing fun and instructional sessions. Below are pictures of some of those lectures.
Jack Smith: Gardening in Small Spaces and Raised Beds

Becky Roberts: Floral Arrangements

Judy Cunningham & Karla Hagen: Lasagna Gardening
Linda Goetz & Barbara Crick: Make Your Own Planters:

….And a big THANKS to the FFA for doing a great job of providing lunch to all the patrons and lecturers!
