Master Gardener Projects

If you are looking for a place to LEARN something new, EARN certification hours, or RETURN your knowledge back to the community, there are many projects and events that Master Gardeners of Rutherford County will be involved in this year.  This year’s projects reflect our core mission of assisting Extension in teaching the community.  If you have questions or would like to know more about any of these projects, please contact the person listed or contact us.

DEMONSTRATION GARDENS:
These gardens are located at the Extension Center near the outdoor classroom (pavilion).  These gardens have been developed and maintained by Master Gardener volunteers. Children and adults who visit the Extension enjoy these beautiful learning areas. Help is always needed to manage, maintain and expand these areas.
    • Butterfly Garden – Nancy Nelson
    • Fruit Orchard - Les Haeberlin
    • Herb Garden – Anna Paddon
    • Vegetable Garden – Sabine Ehlers & Carol Reese
    • Vinyard - Warren Anderson

FARMERS MARKET WORKSHOPS:
If you’d like to develop a short presentation for the first Friday workshops, contact Reggie Reeves.  The 2012 schedule is covered, but we are always looking for new ideas for 2013!

MASTER GARDENERS AT THE MARKET:
Any Master Gardener or Intern who would like to participate in the "Ask the Master Gardener" Table or Concession Stand at the Farmers Market should contact Reggie Reeves to sign up. We typically try to complete sign-ups for the following month at each of our monthly meetings. We also need help at the Murfreesboro Market on the Square on Saturday mornings to staff the “Ask the Master Gardener” table.

2013 MASTER GARDENER TRAINING CLASSES:
Now it’s your turn to “grow a gardener”.  Jack Smith is the project leader for the next class.   We need volunteers to help at the classes but there are also several “behind the scenes” jobs that need someone.

NEWSLETTER:
Linda Lindquist does a great job editing the newsletter, but she can’t do it alone. We need your articles, photos, recipes.

2013 GARDEN BASICS CLASS:
This year's class is over, but it’s not too early to be thinking of a topic for next year’s class. Just let Mark Murphy know you are interested in making a presentation at one of the sessions. You will earn Education hours for the time you spend preparing your presentation AND the time spent giving the presentation. Just remember: keep it basic.

PHOTOGRAPHERS WANTED:
If you would be willing to take photographs at an event or class and provide a copy of them on a disc, please let me know. If we can get a team of shutterbugs together, we should be able to capture the smiles at most of our work days and gatherings.

EXTENSION OFFICE HELP:
If you’d rather work indoors, don’t forget to contact Gail, Melissa, or Linda (898-7710) to find out when they need help in the office. Help with mailings, answer phones, special projects and general office work while the secretaries attend staff and/or training meetings.

WEB SITE BLOG:
Share your favorite gardening ideas or topics with the rest of us.  Contact Sabine Ehlers to find out more about submitting your articles for our brand new blog!

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES:
There are other committees and programs that might be just what you are looking for.  Watch the web site – or better yet - come to a meeting to find out what’s growing on!
